Active Ownership. I love it!

What a nice surprise to see my name in your blog Michelle. I think what you're doing here is so important, I'm happy to be a part of it.

@Clare – Ah, yes, re-reading. You do that, too? Many people don’t but I do. That’s where I’ve gotten into trouble in the past with overzealous decluttering. Turned out there were times I wanted to read a book with exactly THAT flavor to it, even though I already knew the ending. (Assuming I remembered it. Heh.) Re-reading books is like visiting old friends.

@Jennifer – And you’re a delight to work with as well! Even though I still need some work in that self-gentleness department. :)

@Mark – Good to see you here—thanks for stopping by! I really like the idea of taking pictures of stuff for memory’s sake before letting it go out of your life. Great solution! Another option would be to take bits and pieces and create a fun collage or other kind of personal art project with them. A corner of that papier-maché mask, a clipping from those rasta dreads, a label or two from your favorite mix tapes…you could have a “My School Years” shadow box on your wall, let’s say, that would take up minimal space but display reminders of great memories!

Hey Michelle!

This is a subject that is very current for me and has been for the last three years if not longer. Getting rid of old stuff! I have boxes and boxes of stuff that I never use taking up tons of space but it's the kind of stuff that you just can't throw away: a paper mache mask from 4th Grade, a rasta hat with dreds, high school mix tapes, a wooden axe which was a prop in a play, etc.
A friend suggested I do donate and/or throw away this stuff but take pictures of it first so that I can see it again in the future. Electronic storage takes up much less space. I'll see if that suggestion gets put into practice this decade. Who knows? Maybe your blog will motivate me to actually take on this project.

Thanks!

ROLAIDS! That is sheer geeky brilliance! :D

I couldn't agree more how important gentleness-with-self is. It might *sound* wimpy and self-indulgent to the uninitiated, but that's where precious energy comes from!

Thank you so much for mentioning my work on your blog - it's a delight to work with you!

"Energy has become currency to me, and I sometimes have to be even more thrifty with it than I am with money."

Yes! Well said. That is so true for me as well.

Active ownership! What a concept. That makes so much sense. Paired with ROLAIDS, I'm eyeing my books and thinking about which ones of them I'm actually hoping to reread... I really need to do a bout of decluttering in my bedroom, and I think your post will help.

And yes, do a post about energy as currency! Please?
