Enoughness Coaching

What is Enoughness Coaching?

Too much to do and not enough time—that’s the story of your life. Between your career, family, friends, commitments, and all of life’s mundane details that need to be taken care of, you barely have time to breathe, let alone think straight and plan. On top of all that, wanting enjoyment for yourself feels like a crime.

You excel at pretty much everything you set your hand to…but you’re tired of feeling penalized for being so creative and competent. Being good at getting things done should earn you rewards, not more work. But the more you manage to hold everything together with spit and string (hoping that things at least look solid from the outside no matter how frazzled you feel), the more responsibilities people heap on you. You pride yourself in their trust (and deep down you’re afraid what will happen if you say no), but you’re headed for burnout, and you know it.

After struggling for about eight months with what I should offer as a paid product, the idea came out of just two conversations that I had with Michelle.

Why so many of the approaches out there don’t work

You’ve probably tried many of the productivity and time management tools out there, from the most basic physical planner to the latest online software program. And you may have even felt in control—for a short time. But too often the care and feeding of the system itself becomes just another set of tasks adding to the overwhelm. You lose steam and sink back into the morass, wondering if there is a simple way to keep track of it all. Despite all your best efforts, part of you always worries about what might be slipping through the cracks and how it might come back to bite you.

There’s actually a very good reason why none of the methods you’ve tried have worked. However, it’s likely that no one has ever told you what that is, because it’s the kind of statement our positive-thinking, can-do culture loathes hearing. Brace yourself for the truth that will set you free:

You are attempting the impossible.

Wait—what??

First reactions to that are usually defensive—“No way! Don’t tell me what I can’t do!” But the reality is that our technology (which has progressed exponentially over the last 100 years) has so far outpaced our biology (which has taken millennia to evolve), we’ve created a world that we quite literally can’t keep up with anymore.

Except you keep on trying, thinking you must. After all, everyone else seems to be keeping pace. They’re really not—they’re just desperate to appear that way, like you are. So you think you’re the one falling behind while everyone else has it together (while they’re all thinking the exact same thing). And every time you attempt the impossible and fail, your sense of self-worth sinks another notch.

What’s crazy is that I’ve been thinking about and worrying over this issue for two years! Your gentle and encouraging questions allowed me to see the situation from a totally different perspective. Now I have some clear steps that I can take to work on the issue. Huge! Not to mention that you are such a warm and friendly person to talk to. Thank you!

It doesn’t have to be this way

You can experience the relief that comes from knowing that you have enough, do enough, and are enough, letting the rest go without guilt or shame. This happens through the process of:

  • examining your “shoulds” and where they come from
  • determining which are truly important to you vs. which represent the voices of others
  • deciding which “to-dos” to do
  • learning to prioritize and act on them in ways that make you feel fulfilled rather than depleted

Who am I, and why am I doing this?

I’m Michelle Russell, and I help people discover what “enough” looks like to them through one-on-one coaching, online seminars and teleclasses, and my blog.

Why is this work so important to me? Because we live in a world of excess which is killing us. Our bodies, our sanity, our homes, our endless to-do lists, our peace of mind, our planet . . . our culture has encouraged us to see so many wants as needs that, through no fault of our own, we’ve lost the ability to discriminate.

It’s not about living a minimalistic lifestyle (unless, of course, that appeals to you). It’s about recalibrating your inner barometer so that you can decide for yourself what your true needs are. I believe doing this is how we will collectively heal our overburdened bodies, minds, hearts, and world.

As a former professional organizer and member of NAPO, I have a thorough grounding in many techniques of physical organization, time and task management, and system optimization. However, what has prepared me the most to guide people through this process is my own personal experience. I’ve spent years (and I still continue) doing the internal work of wrestling with perfectionism and what I call being an “overachiever and people-pleaser.”

This has given me the insight that often prompts my readers and clients to tell me I help them see their situations in completely new ways. Those ways not only bring them emotional ease but actually empower them to make the specific changes in their lives that take them where they most want to go.
